Education
GED tutoring and testing is available, free of charge, for all adults without a high school diploma or equivalent. Tutoring is provided by an experienced teacher every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at The Haven Shelter (2480 S. Yellowstone, Idaho Falls). Child care is also provided without charge during tutoring sessions.
The GED is structured within five different subject matter:
- Reading
- Science
- Math
- Social Studies
- Writing
Our GED tutoring program has a fast track design. Students will first take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) online at our classroom. The TABE will tell the teacher which subjects the student will pass without any tutoring and which subjects need some focus on. GED tests will be scheduled for the subjects the TABE indicates the student can pass. This allows students to have immediate success, increasing the likelihood of completion of the GED.
While all five subjects have to be passed in order to obtain the GED, the fast track design also allows the student to take one test at a time instead of studying for all of them over a long period of time and then taking all five tests together. We believe this is also a valuable benefit that promotes successful completion of the GED.
