When a loved one's health starts to fail, and they realize they can no longer care for themselves, they can become very discouraged. This can become more than the caregiver can handle, but there is help.
Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership, Agency on Aging, has several programs designed to help lessen the burden a person might be feeling. Anyone older than the age of 55 who is a caregiver qualifies for these programs. The purpose of EICAP is to create communities where all people have access to essential services and the opportunity to achieve the highest possible level of independence and self-sufficiency. This includes those caring for others.
The Area Agency on Aging has a caregiver support group that meets the first Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. at 357 Constitution Way in Idaho Falls. The support group is designed to offer caregivers and the person being cared for the most-up-to-date information, referrals to other agencies in the area for whatever their needs might be, but most of all support and lasting friendships.
For more information on services for caregivers, please call 522-5391.
